Electric vs. Manual: Which Toothbrush is Better?

The toothbrush as we know it today wasn’t around until the late 1930s! While toothbrush shapes, sizes, and materials have changed over the years, the main premise of that 1930s toothbrush has yet really to vary, even today. The manual toothbrush as stood the “test of time” but it wasn’t until the 90s an alternative to the manual toothbrush started finding it’s way into people’s home. This new alternative being the electric brush. The electric toothbrush presents a new consistent method for oral hygiene. Since the manual toothbrush had a competent competitor in the 90s, the debate always arises… Which toothbrush works better?

MANUAL TOOTHBRUSHES

A manual toothbrush can be a very effective tool if used properly and with a proper routine. The ideal manual toothbrush is soft-bristled and should be used a minimum twice a day for two minutes during each brushing. The manual toothbrush is still the leader in households today due to it’s simplicity and effectiveness. These brushes are easy for travel, do not require batteries or charging, and are much less costly upfront as well as ongoing compared to it’s electric competitor. Furthermore, most electric toothbrush are equipped with a convenient 2 minute timer so you are aware of the proper brushing period.

Manual is still a great route, you just have to be conscious of your brush strokes and brushing time. Small circles, gently caressing your teeth and gums for 2 minutes twice a day!

WHICH IS BEST FOR YOU?

Next time you brush look yourself in the mirror, the answer lies with you… Which toothbrush is best for you? Ask yourself..

How are my oral hygiene habits? Do they need improvement? Does an electric toothbrush make financial sense? Is my brushing stroke, time, stroke consistency doing my teeth justice?

With those questions in mind, studies have proven that electric toothbrushes are consistently more effective than their manual competitor. They remove more plaque and fight gum disease using their constant spinning of the brush head. A manual brush is subject to the user’s brushing stroke and consistency.
